This unique rope was utilizing pressure and release was designed and patented by Rex to assist trainers in putting the horses head down as part of the horses groundwork foundation training. This is also recommended for horses who are hard to bridle or horses who are difficult to touch on the head. The trainer can easily teach a horse to drop his head for the bridle, clip the ears and head, or doctor any injuries on the head.
The simple design puts pressure on the horses poll and mouth, the trainer releases the pressure as soon as the horse moves in the desired direction, that is lowering the head the trainer places his hand on the horses neck, moving toward the poll and pinching lightly at the poll prior to putting pressure on the Sugar String, as soon as the horse responds, the SS is released, thus the horse will learn to put his head down when the trainers hand is on the poll, or to an extreme when the trainer says “head down”.
This tool should always be used by an experienced horseman and the horse must never be tied with this rope.

In this lesson, you will learn foundation turning exercises from the ground and under saddle, the importance of knowing your horse is soft and supple in the neck and jaw in both directions before mounting, and that controlling both ends of the horse independently is key to optimum safety and control.

Rex designed this German Martingale after finding it impossible to find one on the market without all the rings in each rein. His unique design is easy to use with a simple method of adjustment using conway buckles. These 3/4″ harness leather reins come in English style connected with a buckle or Western style in split reins.
This is old system which helps collect the horse. Rex recommends using it when the horse is unbalanced, flips his head, or is unsteady in the bridle. This system allows you to have draw reins which puts pressure on the bit, however when the horse is collected and balanced you are on straight reins. This is a valuable training tool to be used by experienced horseman.

Rex designed his hobbles out of a soft nylon rope connected with a metal swivel, button knots and braided sliders keep them snug. Working in the movie business requires horses to be patient and stand for hours. All of Rex’s horses learn to hobble as part of their basic training.
Patience, patience, patience. One of Rex Peterson’s training mantras. Hobbles on a horse prevents a horse on the trailer from pawing or teaches the horse not to fight if he becomes tangled up in a fence or rope. There are countless benefits to teaching a horse this control.
Always take care when you first put hobbles on your horse. You must teach a horse to understand the hobbles. Use a war bridle and work in a controlled space so that you can teach your horse not to fight the control of his front feet.

RThis uniquely designed neck rope is made out of 12 feet of new rope fiber called ramora. It has the feel of cotton but the strength of nylon and looks like period rope. Rex designed these out of necessity when he could not find any to suit his needs to look like period for his films. His design has a button knot, easy to put on and simple to use- put the rope around your horses neck with the button knot under the horses throat, with the long end through some type of noseband. Your horse is always waiting for you when you come back!

These side hobbles are made out of a soft nylon diamond braid rope. They can be used as shown laterally or converted as front hobbles. They are a simple design easy to put on and take off. Hobbles are used to teach a horse patience. For the movie business, Rex has found that it is imperative that all of his horses are well mannered and can stand anywhere calmly for hours. As a result of his experience, all of his horses are broke to the hobbles from day one. This also teaches the horse not to fight if he is ever tangled up in wire, rope, nets or anything else.
